The Gift of Tongues
Have you ever wondered about the gift of speaking in tongues? Why do some people receive the gift of tongues and others don’t? Here’s the good news:
We’re all candidates for the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gift of speaking in tongues — and that means YOU!
The initial physical evidence of being baptized in the Holy Spirit is the ability to speak in other tongues. However, there is a difference between the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gift of tongues.
Holy Spirit is the general of the spirit realm. The Holy Spirit also equips us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit to spread the Gospel throughout the earth. Sometimes, Holy Spirit likes to use the gift of tongues to share the good news with other people.
When you’re baptized in the Holy Spirit, you are given the ability to speak in other tongues. It is one of the most dynamic and humble gifts of the Holy Spirit. As you begin to speak in languages you know not of, you begin to speak the mysteries of Heaven!
It requires great faith to minister with the gift of tongues, because you need a partner to help interpret the message delivered in tongues. Bold people who are willing to submit themselves to this gift are going to change the world!
The First Time I Delivered a Message in Tongues
Even though I was baptized in the Holy Spirit and began speaking in tongues at seven years old, I didn’t experience the real-life power on speaking in tongues until I was in college!
During a Church service in college, it got very quiet in the room. I knew in my spirit that I had a message in tongues because in my spirit I was just boiling with anticipation! I was the youngest guy in the room, but I obeyed the Holy Spirit to speak the word.
I released the word in tongues! What felt like forever was only 15-20 seconds. As I started weeping, the presence of God was so thick. A minute later, a woman interpreted my message in tongues and she shared God’s heart for the lost. She shared that God wishes that none would perish and that He is leaving the 99 for the sake of the 1!
My spirit knew and understood the grief over God’s heart for the lost. While I didn’t know what I had said, spiritually I was aware. This moment was one of the most fascinating moments of my entire life.
Another story of speaking in tongues and God moving powerfully, was during a gathering with friends and family. We had just been watching basketball when we began to discuss old time revival services. We started watching funny clips of the joy of the Lord breaking out in old revival services, when all of a sudden we thought: “We should pray!”
I began to feel a bubbling up in my insides and I knew I had a message in tongues! Everyone else was quietly praying but I could barely hold the message of tongues inside.
When I began praying, I scared my friend’s wife half to death! But shortly after releasing this word, my friend had the interpretation of the tongue! We continued our prayer meting with the interpretation.
Who knows? Maybe your next movie night or basketball night will turn into a prayer meeting where the gift of tongues is active!
