The Gift of Words of Wisdom
You know when someone says just the right thing at just the right time? When it’s inspired by the Holy Spirit, I believe that’s the gift of words of wisdom. The Holy Spirit is fully willing to give the gifts of the Spirit to hungry hearts — no matter where you are in the world or where you are in your walk with God. Let’s talk about the words of wisdom and how they are changing the globe!
“Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit”
An Overview of the Gift of Words of Wisdom
So, what is the gift of words of wisdom? Can anyone have this gift? Yes! All of the gifts of the spirit are meant to HELP others! The gift of words of wisdom is a supernatural ability and revelation of knowledge that applies to a present situation or the future. The gift of words of knowledge is primarily about things in the past, whereas the gift of words of wisdom is primarily about things in the future and helps with decision-making.
One of my favorite stories about the gift of words of wisdom involves my mom. While she was ministering over a teenage girl on a ministry trip, she heard the phrase, “Ball” in her spirit. Even though “ball” is an odd word to give someone, she told the girl she was praying for, “I don’t know what this means to you, but I hear the word ball.”
The teenager began to cry and explained that she had told the Lord, “If you want me to play basketball, just tell this person who’s praying to tell me the word ‘ball’.”
Wow! Words of wisdom are so awesome. Simple obedience changes history.
Supernatural Stories about Words of Wisdom
The GifT that moves the heart of kings
Everyone, everywhere is asking for wisdom. Because of the gift of words of wisdom, we can meet needs through the Holy Spirit. Sometimes God’s response to those who are praying for wisdom is to raise those with the gift of wisdom to pray and impart wisdom to them! When people are seeking help in tough situations, the gift of words of wisdom is also applicable.
When we give and invest our lives in the Lord, we have the opportunity to be His hands and feet and help others. As we see in the life of King Solomon, wisdom was priceless and invaluable! His ability to receive the wisdom of God changed the course of Israel’s history and prospered a nation. When you sow your life like Solomon sowed with wisdom, you become a prime target for the Lord to use you with the gift of wisdom! The gift of words of wisdom has the potential to move the hearts of kings and presidents.
Who knows, maybe God will use you to speak a word of wisdom to change the world!
One of my favorite stories about the gifts of words of wisdom was at a former job of mine. A demon-possessed man came into the ministry headquarters that I used to work at. I was running late because it was a crazy morning with the kids, changing diapers, and getting things in order before I went to work.
When I arrived, I was told by my coworkers that there was a demon-possessed man in the boardroom. We ended up having a full and interesting morning praying for this man. Very little breakthrough was happening and I was standing in the back, calm, and praying for the Lord to give me a word of wisdom or a word of knowledge.
When I received the word of knowledge, I said, “Who was the man that molested you when you were young?” Immediately, he confessed it was his uncle and was set free from that one demon because of the word of knowledge.
Through the gift of the discerning of spirits, I realized there were more demons that this man was wrestling with. At one point, through the gift of words of wisdom, I said, “You have been to 13 different deliverance ministries, haven’t you?”
The man said, “Yes.”
The word of wisdom that I released was that he didn’t need to run from deliverance ministry to deliverance ministry and conference hopping to find freedom. I encouraged him that he needed to apply himself to the word of God rather than YouTube preachers and that he needed to plug into a local church. I still pray that the word of wisdom I released will change his life for the better.
Another story about deliverance and the gift of words of wisdom was from my friend, Joshua. While Joshua was at a barbeque about to eat, someone came running over to tell him that a guest at the party had a demon.
Joshua just wanted to eat his burger, but he was obedient to the Holy Spirit and went to see what was up. The man needing freedom was twitching, obviously uncomfortable, and he began confessing about what he does in his home, the thoughts in his head, and the way he was treating his daughter.
While listening, Joshua remembered the wisdom of scripture and told the man the story of: Matthew 12:43-45 which reads:
“When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’
When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there.
And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.””
Through the scripture and the word of wisdom, Joshua began asking the man to take inventory so that way he wouldn’t experience Matthew 12 in his life. Joshua asked questions like…
“Who’s your accountability partner?”
“What music will you stop listening to?”
“Do you need to cancel any subscriptions?"
“Do you need to stop watching any TV shows?”
Because of the scripture and the supernatural word of wisdom, Joshua was able to make sure that the man at the barbeque who needed freedom wasn’t in a worse place after his deliverance.
Words of Wisdom & Protection from the Holy Spirit
Wow. I love the gift of words of wisdom so much! I want to highlight one important aspect of wisdom. Words of wisdom offer supernatural protection through the Holy Spirit.
I remember hearing a story once about a pastor receiving a word of wisdom from a person in his congregation. This person called the pastor because of a dream they had in the middle of the night. One the phone, the dreamer warned the pastor and said “Cancel your board meeting now!”
The next piece of this word of wisdom was for the pastor to call a particular person in his congregation. When he did so, a plot was exposed to overthrow the pastor at the board meeting. Poisonous lies and deception were dealt with by the gift of words of wisdom and the Lord was able to help this pastor and his local church body.
