Jesus Will Equip You For The Calling
Jesus Will Equip You For The Calling
An encounter with the living God will change everything about you. If you are afraid of man, an encounter with Jesus will give you fiery boldness. If you are self-conscious, an encounter with Jesus will show you whose you are, and how He sees you. One moment in His presence will change everything. The things of this world will grow strangely dim in the light of who He is. A verse many of you may know, Psalm 34:8 says, “O taste and see that the Lord is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him.” It is important to not just stop at this verse but to continue down to verses 9-10 where it says, “For to those who fear Him there is no want. The young lions lack and grow hungry, But they who seek the Lord will not lack any good thing.” Friends, I tell you this because as I have lived from this place, His miraculous power has manifested in the most beautiful ways in and around my life. He is so faithful!
Going into high school I was a lover and follower of Jesus. Growing up I had encountered Him in beautiful and life-changing ways. Right before I entered my public high school in Nebraska, I was living in Florida when I had a dream from the Lord. In the dream, I had put together an assembly program at my school, and I could see hundreds of students coming to Christ. Not long after the dream, I moved to Nebraska and I met my still best friend, Joshua Smith. After talking about Jesus together we quickly realized the Lord had been showing the both of us the same thing. Joshua had an open vision on orientation day freshmen year about sharing the gospel with other students. We instantly hit it off and are now ministering together 19 years later all around the world.
In high school, I would walk the halls singing worship songs, and I boldly proclaimed the name of Jesus to my peers. So naturally, kids in school wanted to beat me up. One day during basketball practice I went into the bathroom when a couple of guys from the team tried to go in to beat me up. Joshua stood up to them and kept them from going in to hurt me. Whether you are in high school or out in the workplace, you can be that friend. When you hear people gossiping about someone you care about, you can be the friend to stick up for what is right. With everything going on in the world you can be the one to stick up for the unpopular opinion.
Freshmen, sophomore, and junior year passed us by at school. We started prayer groups and saw the Lord moving throughout our school. During senior year, Joshua and I took action on what the Lord had spoken years before. With only a couple of months left of school before graduation, we knew we had to plan the assembly program. Joshua went out and spearheaded getting donations from stores, giveaway items, a Christian rock band, and we rented out the gym. Three or four days before the event the principal pulled us into his office filled with rage. He demanded that the event would not happen, saying that if he received one negative phone call every Christian program in the school would be shut down.
Because of the encounters Joshua and I had both had with the Lord, we were able to walk in boldness before the administration at our school. Exodus 4:10-11 says, “Then Moses said to the Lord, ‘Please, Lord, I am not a man of words, neither before nor since you have spoken to Your servant; for I am slow of speech and tongue. The Lord said to Him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute or the deaf, or the seeing or the blind? Is it not I, the Lord?” When the Lord calls you to do something to advance His Kingdom here on earth, He will give you everything you need to see it come to pass. We knew the Lord told us we would hold an event, and students would be saved. On the day of the event, we were in the back praying before going out, and to our shock, 750 people had come to the public school gymnasium. That night 220 students gave their lives to Jesus. Not one negative phone call came from the event, quite the opposite. Parents called in thanking the principal for allowing the event saying their children’s lives had been changed.
Today I encourage you to not let the dreams die that the Lord has put inside of you. You may not be in high school like we were then, but you are in the workplace or have family and friends that need to hear about Jesus. He desires to use you to see His Kingdom advance here on the earth. Just like Psalm 34 says, “to those who fear Him there is no want.” Give reverence to God, He created the heavens and the earth and He has beautiful plans for your life.
